BIAB Nails: What They Are and Why Everyone Is Asking for Them

If you have spent any time on Instagram or TikTok lately, you have probably seen the letters BIAB everywhere. It is one of the most requested services at our salon here in Gloucester — and once you try it, it is easy to see why. Here is a simple, no-jargon guide to what BIAB actually is.

What is BIAB?

BIAB stands for Builder in a Bottle. It is a soak-off builder gel that is applied like a polish but gives your nails extra strength and structure. Think of it as somewhere between a regular gel polish and a full extension — stronger and longer-lasting than gel polish, but more natural-looking and gentler on the nail.

Why people love it

The big draw is that BIAB protects your natural nails while they grow. If your nails are prone to peeling, splitting or breaking before they reach the length you want, BIAB acts like a little suit of armour. Many clients use it to grow their natural nails out over a few months, then switch to regular gel once their nails are strong enough on their own. It also keeps a beautiful, glossy finish the whole time it is on.

BIAB vs regular gel polish

Regular gel polish gives you colour and shine, but very little strength — it moves with your natural nail, so if your nails are weak, they can still bend and break. BIAB is thicker and self-levelling, so it builds a supportive layer over the nail. If your gel polish usually chips within a week or your nails snap easily, BIAB is almost certainly the better choice for you.

How long does it last?

Most clients comfortably get three to four weeks from a BIAB application before needing an infill or a fresh set. Because it grows out with your natural nail, you can usually have it infilled rather than removed and reapplied each time — which is quicker, and kinder to your nails too.

Is it safe for my natural nails?

Yes — as long as it is applied and removed properly. BIAB soaks off with acetone, so there is no harsh drilling on the natural nail. The golden rule is simple: never pick or peel it off yourself, as that is what damages the nail underneath. Book a removal and we will take it off gently and safely.
